Traveling to Lexington

The closest Airport to Lexington is Bluegrass Airport (LEX). It is 6 miles west of downtown Lexington. It features the shortest walk in the country from the check in counters to the gates! Delta, United, and American offer flights to their hubs, and Allegiant offers direct flights to several popular vacation destinations.

More direct flight options are available at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) and Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF). Both airports are about a 1 hour drive from Lexington and offer flights from Air Canada, Alaska, Breeze, British Airways, Frontier, Southwest, Spirit, and Sun Country in addition to the carriers operating to LEX.

Kentucky Horse Park

If there’s one thing bigger than bourbon in Kentucky, it’s horses, and this 1,032-acre park is the place to go to see them. Visit the International Museum of the Horse, take a horse-drawn tour of the grounds, and see equine presentations featuring many of the most popular horse breeds in the country.

The Arboretum – State Botanical Garden of Kentucky

100 acres of public garden with a variety of walking trails throughout, this is an amazing place to spend an afternoon and get some fresh air and exercise.

Red River Gorge

This natural treasure is about an hour away from Lexington, but it is well worth the trip with its stunning views and fascinating geologic features, including over 150 stone arches (including Natural Bridge, seen here). It makes a great day trip for the adventurous!

The Pinnacles

Less than an hour south of Lexington in Berea, this is one of Pixel’s favorite hiking spots! There are several trails here but our two favorite spots to hit are Indian Fort Lookout and the East Pinnacle.

The Kentucky Theatre

Charming Historic Cinema opened in 1922, it’s a blast from the past which plays current and classic movies, independent films as well as special features and concerts.

The Kentucky Bourbon Trail

Did you know that 95% of the world’s bourbon comes from Kentucky? Explore some of the many bourbon distilleries throughout Kentucky. Some of Roger’s favorites are Buffalo Trace, Woodford Reserve, Maker’s Mark, and Lexington’s own James E. Pepper distillery.

Not just a bar, this place has awesome live music every week as well as an arcade with classic games and pinball machines for a real vintage entertainment feel. It’s a great place to spend some time even if you don’t drink alcohol.
